Ant Forecast Calls for Rain

Tue 30 November 2010

When we were at Angkor Wat this weekend, our guide noticed a stream of ants climbing up a ruined wall. "It's going to rain," he said. "They always come in when it rains." There was a smattering of rain while we were there, and a shower that night.

Last night a parade of ants trailed in from a bathroom pipe and out through a tiny gap in the wall tiles. They've never done that before. I went back downstairs to put a bag over my bicycle seat.

Sure enough, it poured around 3AM. It was the kind of storm where you think the raindrops can't get any louder, and then the volume ratchets up another two notches to prove you wrong.

My bicycle seat was dry for the commute. Thanks, ants.
